Kennel Construction Updates

About the Kennels

We intend to build two kennel buildings on the property in a two-stage process over the next 5 to 7 years.  The first kennel to be built will be our Phase I kennel.  This building will be built simultaneously with our first house.  The Phase I kennel will be comprised of 20 regular sized runs (5 x 6 inside and 5 x 12 outside), a small dog (10 run) and special needs ward (5 runs),4 over-sized whelping runs (6 x 8 inside),  puppy room, isolated sound proof cattery and an indoor exercise/training area.  The 4 over-sized whelping runs will be isolated from all other runs and have a separate ventilation system to serve as a clean and sanitary room for birthing puppies.  We hope to install webcams in this area so those who are interested may watch the birthing process.  The cattery will also have a separate ventilation system to ensure that there is a proper transfer of fresh air for our feline guests.

Once the house and Phase I kennels are up and running we will begin construction of the Phase II kennel.   The Phase II kennel will be comprised of 50 large dog runs (5 x 6 inside and 5 x 12 outside), an isolated small dog ward with 20 runs (4 x 6 indoor runs), an isolated special needs ward with 10 runs (4 x 6 indoor runs), an isolated sound proof cattery, grooming area, and an indoor exercise/training facility.   Once Phase II is complete, the Phase I kennel will house only my personal dogs.

Kennel Construction

The indoor portion of the kennels will be composed of 6-foot high dividers.  These are 4-foot high solid panels sealed to the floor to prevent cross-contamination between runs with an additional 2 feet of perforated panel at the top for ventilation.  All runs will be indoor/outdoor.  With 90 square feet of floor space, dogs will have the largest kennel space offered in the area.  Raised benches in the runs will serve as sleeping platforms.  Windows above the runs will allow extra natural lighting into the interior of the kennel.  All concrete floors will be warmed with radiant heat in addition to central heating and air conditioning climate control.  Indoor and outdoor floors will have a non-skid rubberized coating.

The outdoor portion of each run will be covered, and all ceiling areas will utilize acoustic tiles to help decrease noise transmission.  The outdoor kennels will utilized the same 4-foot high solid panels sealed to the floor to prevent cross-contamination with the top 2 feet having the perforated panel for ventilation.  The large exterior exercise pens will contain pea stone for ease of sanitation and cleaning.  For days that are not conducive to outdoor play, dogs will be able to run about in our indoor exercise/training area.  The entire kennel perimeter will be enclosed with a 6’ board-on-board vinyl privacy fence.  This will provide security as well as serve as an additional noise barrier.  A 3’ concrete walk will line the inside of the fence to prevent digging escapes.

Kennel Materials

After a lot of research and numerous visits to several kennels and animal shelters across the nation we decided to use all Mason Kennel Company products.  They were by far the highest in quality and the most willing to accommodate our special requests.  To find out more about Mason Kennels click here:  www.masonco.com

Raintree™ Kitty Condos will also be provided by Mason Company.

Other Services We Intend To Provide

  • An owner’s piece of mind and quality care for their dog is always our top priority.  What better way to ease your mind than to be able to see your dog and the good care that they are receiving while you are away?  Web-cams will be available in some runs so that owners may check on their pets.

  • A grooming room will be included in our Phase II kennel.  Your pampered pooch will look (and smell) as good when you pick them up as they did when you dropped them off.

  • We will also offer extended play and/or training sessions for your dog.

  • Agility and obedience lessons will be offered after the Phase II kennel is completed.
